Outpatient

First line

  • Incision and drainage (primary) · procedure

    I&D is definitive therapy for most simple abscesses

Alternatives

  • TMP-SMX or doxycycline (if antibiotics added) · p.o.

    TMP-SMX 1–2 DS bid; or doxycycline 100 mg bid

  • Clindamycin · p.o.

    300–450 mg PO tid

5–7 days if antibiotics given
